Stimulation of the Clitoris
We have already seen the importance of the clitoris during love-making; without its stimulation in some form, it is not possible for a woman to achieve sexual orgasm. Also, it being a great nerve-packed centre of sensation, its caressing causes a great deal of pleasure, sexual excitement and arousement in a woman.

In spite of its great sensitivity, the clitoris should never be handled during the very early stages of love-making. Start with the other erogenous parts like the lips, the earlobes and the breasts. Then, going by her reactions, proceed downwards. And, never start with the direct manipulation of the clitoris. First stimulate it indirectly, by the movement and pressure of the hand over the lips of the vagina and the area around the clitoris. This, because of the way in which the nerves from the clitoris are spread about, is very satisfying to most women. In fact, to many women, who cannot stand the direct handling of the clitoris at all, this indirect stimulation is enough for the achievement of orgasm.

When finally you do get down to the direct caressing of the clitoris, it is best to begin with its lower part, i.e. the shaft. Gently applied pressure with a finger works well for a start. Then, noticing mounting excitement but no objections, you may start with the upper part, i.e. the head. Make sure that the clitoris has been made moist. This can easily be done by spreading over it the juices coming from the vagina. If, for some reason, the secretions of the vagina are not there, use that good and handy lubricant; your saliva.

The direct stimulation of the clitoris can be carried out in any one of the following ways: A finger may be moved up and down it; it may be held lightly between the thumb and a finger, and these moved up and down; it may be held by the thumb and a finger and pressed gently at intervals. Also, if your partner can stand the sensation, a finger may be placed on the tip of the clitoris and moved about there. The vagina and the clitoris may be handled at the same time, using the thumb and a finger. The speed, intensity and method of manipulation should be varied, failing which the clitoris may become numb.

Once you have started stimulating the clitoris, you should try not to stop for too long a period. If you do so, the sexual tension built up in the woman may fade away unnecessarily, instead of exploding in a wonderful orgasm. If, as you are caressing it, the clitoris suddenly disappears, do not get panicky. It often retracts into skin. The important thing is to continue the stimulation of the area. Never stop the manipulation of the clitoris once the woman reaches the point of orgasm. Women need and desire the stimulation of their clitoris during orgasm. However, once she has had her orgasm you should stop, as then her clitoris is bound to be too sensitive to tolerate touch. (The stop, of course, need not be a long one and, if you feel so inclined, you can start again and bring her off again.)

If for some reason the clitoris of a woman is cut, she is still capable of achieving sexual orgasm. The very many and very sensitive nerves which come to the clitoris would still be there at the spot where the clitoris was and in the area around it. (Here it may be again stressed that for many women the indirect stimulation of the clitoris, by the caressing of the area around it, is enough for the achievement of orgasm.)
